Hercules Sealing Products Canada (Barrie, ON) – BUYER

The Buyer works as a member of the Purchasing Department to ensure a continuous and timely supply of products, supplies and services at a minimum inventory investment. You will accomplish this by reviewing purchasing requisitions, expediting purchase orders, obtaining quotes, and maintaining purchasing records. The Buyer will serve as the point of contact for all internal and external communications involving purchases and is responsible for supplier development as well as promoting good interdepartmental relationships.

This position has a fiduciary responsibility to both commit and monitor funds for all value stream commodities.

• Generate requisition reports to identify stock items to be replenished.
• Review requisition reports and determine best source for replenishement using existing policies and procedures, the supplier for purchase part record and the approved supplier list.
• Reverse Engineering – Utilize sophisicated measuring equipment to identify and quote based on samples
• Prepare / place purchase orders and/or distribution orders to fulfill customer demands and replenish stock.
• Purchase materials and equipment and arrange services within purchasing authority.
• Contact vendors to obtain quotes and to confirm purchase order details.
• Track and monitor purchases, from initial order to arrival to ensure timely delivery.
• Log all order receipts and confirmations.
• Address and report active purchase order errors in a timely manner.
• Maintain accurate and accessible vendor records, part records, and department files.
• Identify potential vendors to be added to the approved supplier list.
• Answer inquiries from vendors and act as liazon to resolve issues that may delay payment of invoices.
• Negotiate best costs and deliveries from vendors / providers
• Work collaboratively with other internal departments such as accounting, sales, marketing, engineering, and production.
• Provide purchasing planning and control information by collecting, analyzing and summarizing data and trends.
• Accomplish purchasing and organizational goals by completing tasks assigned by the Purchasing Manager.
• Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
• Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Purchasing Manager and/or the General Manager

• Completed Courses in Purchasing and/or 3-5 years of relevant experience would be an asset. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• Ability to work as a team member.
• Excellent written, verbal, analytical, negotiating and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated cost reductions.
• Good organization and time management skills and able to prioritize work, carry out assignments, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
• Good computer skills to include MRP, MS Office products, and spreadsheet analysis.
• Basic ability to read technical drawings would be an asset.

Primarily responsible for providing excellent customer service through responsiveness and a positive attitude, processing customer orders and returns in an efficient manner, certifying accuracy for your work and exceptional communication. Inside sales will provide product/service information and work to resolve any emerging problems that our customer accounts might face with accuracy and efficiency.

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Customer service experience in an industrial environment
• Knowledge/experience with hydraulic and pneumatic seals an asset
• Strong computer skills with focus on Outlook, Word and Excel
• Experience with IFS an assest
• Good telephone mannerisms and communication skills
• Solid judgement along with decision making and problem solving skills
• Excellent communication skills
• Positive attitude and eager to learn
